As a certified Geek family, we’re on our computers a lot. Even my little guys, who are 3 and 6. Tommy, my 6-year-old, has his own laptop, which was provided to him from the virtual charter school he’s enrolled in. My little geniuses have even figured out how to get on YouTube all by themselves, and can be entertained for hours on end by LOLcatz videos. Tommy also likes playing games online, he likes Wizard 101 and the like. The boys like sites like Nick Jr. and PBS Kids, all of which are mom-approved.
Of course, when left to their own devices, they can stumble across some things I’d rather them not see. I know, I know, you’re supposed to hyper-vigilant about your kid’s computer use, yadda, yadda, yadda. Sometimes I get sidetracked, and am not paying close attention. It happens. Don’t judge me. YOU! Right there! Stop judging!
I got the wake-up call however, when I saw my sons playing a game called “Whack Your Boss”, in which you can tell the cartoon which horrific way they should mutilate their boss, complete with copious amounts of cartoon blood. NOT cool. So I was excited when I stumbled upon Kidyos.com Kidyos.com is like YouTube for kids. All sorts of great videos featuring the kid’s favorite characters, like Thomas the Tank Engine and Sesame Street, and even some fun old favorites like the Smurfs and Woody Woodpecker! Hell, they even have Yoga for Kids videos! My 10-year-old will LOVE that!
Kidyos content is pre-screened to make sure it is appropriate for your child, and they update their content every week, which is great, so the kids don’t get bored. They also have games, and a listing of other kid-friendly sites that are fun and educational for the kids. They will suggest appropriate content based on your child’s age, and you can also nominate new content to be included! I really think this site will be great for my three-year-old when he wants to be on the computer when all the older ones are on theirs, doing their schoolwork.
Definitely take a look a Kidyos.com and let me know what you think!
